Auntie’s Bakery & Cafe, a popular spot for breakfast and lunch in Uptown Whittier, announced on social media that it was closed today after being broken into and ransacked last night.
The owners of the family-owned restaurant said that the burglars took all their electronic devices, including their register, and caused damage to the property.
“We hope to be up and running just as soon as possible,” they wrote on their Facebook page.
They also thanked the Whittier Police Department, who has already apprehended one suspect, and their neighbors who saw something suspicious and called 911.
“We are grateful!” they added.
Auntie’s Bakery & Cafe opened its doors in 2017 and has since gained a loyal following for its homemade foods, baked goods and specialty drinks. It is located at 6506 Greenleaf Ave and offers a variety of American comfort food, such as fried chicken and waffles, pesto pasta and cheeseburger.
The restaurant has a health score of A and a 4-star rating on Yelp, with customers praising its friendly service, cozy atmosphere and delicious food.
According to its website, Auntie’s Bakery & Cafe is usually open from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday, and closed on Monday and Tuesday.
It is unclear when the restaurant will reopen, but the owners said they will keep their customers updated on their social media pages.
